Bouw Radio Zendstation Malabar
Album pages: 51 up to 72 (being the final page of this series)
Maybe this page is a bit too much heavy loaded, patience is therefore sometimes needed.

Wikkelen van een spoel
The text is a bit too simple. We are viewing the construction of the lower coil, which supplies the HF output current. The person with spectacles is called by Klaas Dijkstra 'Lazarus Potcognak'. When he wrote this down he could only rely on his memory phonetically. He came from what later became Czechoslovakia, but lived together with an Indonesian woman for some time. Please notice the way the coils were implemented in the system

Please notice the two men on the top of the roof of the Telefunken annex.

Viewing towards the rear side of the main station building. The Telefunken transmitter hall still not having glass windows.

A storage building situated in the 'backyard' of the Telefunken transmitter hall.

Koelvyver boven
Cooling water pond, situated at an elevated level above the main transmitter station.
12 October 1921
Viewing on the left the main station building and on the right-hand side a storage, likely utility building as well.

Spoelen
Coils, one should more adequately name it coils under construction, or building up coils, or that like.

There is much more to discover when you look closely to the various techniques involved.

No caption, and we have no idea what is actually shown.

Overzicht
Viewing the higher level cooling pond. In the distance the main Radio Malabar station building.
8 November 1921
On the left-hand side the rear window of the Telefunken attached transmitter hall, on the right the storage and likely utility building.

Magneetspoel voor de boog
The caption mentions magnetic coil, this is not entirely correct, what it did was it constituted the HF spark-gap output signal. Please notice the way the coils were implemented in the system
Page 60
8 November 1921
On the left, incorrect: Verlengspoel zelfinductie; on the right Afstemming van de antenne
The bundle of copper wire isn't a coil yet as it is only a coil due to be constructed. Please notice the way it has been bound together. However, please look the electrical motor-driven tuning of the antenna loading coil.

Weerstandsbank
Please notice in its rear the air funnel for air-flow cooling.

Magazyn
Storage and/or utility building, which was situated in the rear of the Telefunken transmitter section.
3 December 1921
I don't know what the purpose of the circular construction left of the main transmitter hal is. Cooling?

Omvormers it should be!

Opbouw boogkamer
Showing the construction of the Poulsen type spark-gap generator. A bit chaotic, however, interesting is to see how they commenced building it.
3 December 1921
What its purpose once was we don't know
3 December 1921
My guess: was this construction once meant for winding-up heavy coils?
Page 66
3 December 1921
Viewing the construction of the Telefunken section. On the left the future rear windows. The camera facing towards the High-Valley of Bandung.
3 December 1921
I guess they are constructing a water channel.
11 Januari 1922
Boog in verdere opbouw
Apparently, the lower coil meant for the HF current is being mounted already. Please notice the way the coils were implemented in the system
Page 67

Opbouw grote boog
(construction of the 'big spark')
Please notice the way the coils were implemented in the system
11 Januari 1922
Viewing its construction from a different perspective

Viewing the west side of the main transmitter hall, towards the entrance of the canyon.
11 Januari 1922
Spoelwikkelen
Winding, likely, the upper (bias current) coil. Please notice the central power feed, which might underline my previous estimation that coil winding was done by means of an electrical motor. Please notice the way the coils were implemented in the system

Standing inside the Telefunken transmitter hall, viewing the transmitter control panel.

On the left-hand side the second antenna-tuner tower in front of the building, annex the Telefunken transmitter hall.

Looking towards the Bandung Valley. The camera positioned more inside the canyon.

Overzicht terrein
The camera positioned a bit nearer to the Radio Malabar building, viewing roughly northwards.

Constructing likely a water-guiding channel, taking into account the V-shape of the earth work commenced.
7 Februari 1922
Viewing, I guess, towards the front of the Malabar station building. Standing inside the Telefunken transmitter hall.

Maybe viewing the rear of the Telefunken transmitter control panel.

Wikkelen
Again Mr. 'Lazarus Potcognak' supervising winding one of the Poulsen Spark-Gap transmitter coils. Please notice the quite heavy chain utilised for coil winding.
Please notice the way the coils were implemented in the system
Page 72
7 Maart 1922
Apparently coil winding was demanding quite some personnel assisting. Coil winding was here commenced inside the main transmitter hall, whereas previously one get the impression that it was done somewhere else.
7 Maart 1922
We are standing outside the Telefunken transmitter hall still under construction. My guess, shown in front is a cooling water system under construction. The cylinder on the left reminds me for a photo taken on the other side of the main station hall. Viewing the small tube running towards the main building, it might have been a water storage tank.
7 Maart 1922
Viewing banks of capacitors. On the right-hand side is the canyon (east slope) side, in the rear the front windows facing the Bandung Valley direction.
Herewith this project has come to a conclusion.
What, however, is most likely, that additional albums once existed. Because in Klaas Dijkstra's book we can find additional (complementary) photos.
I would like to remind, that photos may be used for non commercial purposes only. We would very much appreciate that reproduction used for a non commercial paper or article is referring to our web source and we also would be delighted to receive a copy of the article or (non commercial) publication.
We also would like to remind you, that these albums were once owned by late Bob Grevenstuk; before they were granted to our Foundation.
