The second World War has been, luckily, ended about six decades ago.
Nevertheless, it still makes sense to bear Clausewitz’s opinion on the role of historical reflections in mind. (consider the hyperlink) He pointed, that judging a historical circumstance is often taken too simple, since we do not know what the motivations were during the decision taking process. He believes, that the winning partly (actors) might have taken the same (wrong) decisions under the same circumstances as the losing party did, then. However, he also said: "victory is the final result of superior personality and mind".
